For Good

“Why do bad things happen to good people?”

It’s a question that has puzzled people for generations and has been the reason why many have chosen to not put their faith and trust in God. If God is truly sovereign and truly good, how could He let such terrible, evil things happen to us? How could He allow so much suffering?

Maybe you’ve asked yourself these questions during different circumstances and situations in your own life. Perhaps you have endured certain trials that have caused you to cry out, “Why God?” If so, you’re not alone.  Even back in biblical days, people were asking this question. And there is one story in particular near the beginning of our Bibles that I believe helps us answer all of these questions – the story of Joseph.

He is Good

Milk, eggs, sugar, flour. Milk, eggs, sugar, flour. Milk, eggs, sugar, flour. Imagine you’re going to the grocery store to pick up a few things, but you didn’t write down what you need.  You’re likely going to repeat what you need over and over again in your head so you remember what to pick up at the store. We do this because repetition is a helpful strategy for remembering or memorizing information. 

Moses used this strategy as he authored Genesis.

You Can Trust God to Write Your Story

I LOVE stories! Whether it be in books, movies, or TV shows, I love getting invested in the characters’ lives and stories. For me, reading or watching these stories is almost like an escape from the busyness and craziness of my life.

My favorite types of stories are mysteries and crime dramas. Whodunits always have me on the edge of my seat and my mind scrambling to decipher the clues and discover who the criminal is. If a story has a mystery to figure out, a crime to solve, or a bad guy to catch, I’m interested!

You may not love mysteries and crime dramas like I do, but you probably do have some other book or movie genre that you enjoy and keeps you interested in the story. In whatever stories you read and watch, there’s likely some twists and turns or conflicts that keep you engaged. And while we love these twists and turns in others’ stories, we hate them in our own.
