Enough About Me

Women in America are increasingly unhappy. And nobody quite seems to know why. After all, women have more rights and more opportunities than they’ve ever had before. Yet, women still feel unsatisfied, unfulfilled, and simply unhappy.

And when women feel this way, our culture tells them that they just to practice a little self-care. You just need to go get your nails done. You just need to go do some yoga. You just need to say no to others. You just need to focus on yourself. While these things may provide a modicum of relief, discontentment sets in soon afterward. What is the problem? Bible Crash Course

This blog post is going to be a little different from the other posts I usually write. Typically, I focus on a theological topic, biblical passage, or Christian book in my posts, but no matter what I write about, I always make an effort to center my posts on the truth of the Bible. And I do this because I am passionate about the Word of God, and I want other people to be excited about learning from it and to be in awe of its beauty. This mission is actually in the tagline of my website – “Encouraging Women to Love God’s Word.”

Growing up in church and in Christian school, I had the privilege of learning a great deal about the Bible, and this privilege is something I am deeply grateful for. However, not every Christian today grew up in a Christian home. Not every Christian today went to church every Sunday morning or memorized weekly Bible verses. Not every Christian today is well-versed in theology and knows what big, theological terms, like “inerrancy” and “metanarrative,” mean. On this blog, I talk and teach a lot about the Bible, yet I know that many of you may not even be aware of the basics of Bibliology (the study of the Bible). So, this post will be like a crash course of sorts and teach you the basic things you need to know about the Bible.

Waiting for a Savior

The 2019 advent season is quickly coming to a close. The term “advent” is often equated with Christmastime or the Christmas season. But these don’t quite mean the same thing.

Advent is “the arrival of a notable person or thing.” (1)

Advent is a season of waiting. During your celebration of advent, you may have waited to light a new purple candle every week. You may have waited to snag some cookies out of the jar after dinner. You may be waiting to open the shiny presents under the tree. You may have waited for a loved one to visit. You may have waited to decorate your house for the holiday (or not… I know some of you had your Christmas trees up on November 1!).

But all these types of waiting are not what advent is all about. Advent is ultimately a season of waiting for Jesus, our Savior. It’s a season of remembering how people waited thousands of years for the Messiah to come, and it’s a season of looking forward to Christ’s second coming.
